Middle ear implants (MEIs) are an alternative when traditional hearing aids are not beneficial. Designed for those with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing losses, MEIs are surgically implanted after specific candidacy requirements are met. A special magnet is implanted on the bones of the middle ear and a processor is worn either behind or in the ear canal. The processor transmits the sound electronically to the implant, vibrating the middle ear bones and providing audition. Patients can expect no feedback and overall hearing improvement.
